Up mid-morning, and took all of about ten minutes to repack my bag. This left me plenty of time to help queenmomcat repack her suitcase, which took a little longer. We checked out, left our bags at the hotel, and hopped on the El to go north to Andersonville.
We had several stops planned, but no fixed agenda, so it was a pleasantly low-key afternoon. We had lunch at a nice, albeit slightly overheated, cafe and then walked down the street to the Women and Children's First book store. There, I picked up some new poetry (well, new to me at least), and queenmomcat bought a few books to read on the train ride home. Finally, we ended up at the new branch of Pastorale to get some good cheese and sandwiches or the trip back to Michigan. The cheese shop in this new place shares quarters with a wine bar, so we sat down for a while and tried a few wines. It was a good way to spend some time.
Eventually, we hopped back on the El and headed back to River North. We picked up our bags at the hotel and took a taxi to Union Station. Our train back home was on time starting out, and while it was delayed a little along the way due to freight traffic, we got in at a reasonable hour. Back home, we found queenmomcat's car covered with a layer of ice and snow. It looks like it snowed, warmed up, froze again, and then snowed a second time. It took me a while to get it all scraped out, but we eventually made it home to our own house and traumatized cats.
It's getting late now -- we've been catching up online and off with what happened while we were away -- and we should be going to bed soon. Tomorrow is a free day from work, but there's lots of things to be done around the house, so I should be busy.
