Up early for subbing this morning, and off to the middle school to our south to take the place of a sixth-grade English teacher for the day. The students were pretty good, and they did have enough to keep them occupied. (They spent the first part of class down in the media center getting books for free reading time and the second part of the class working on an essay project.) At the end of the day, during the regular teacher's planning period, I was asked to take over an eighth-grade social studies class, so it was a nice, busy day.
I had just about enough time after getting home to eat a salad and pack for my own trip to Chicago tomorrow before I had to head off to the book store. I walked in, and I worked a 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM closing shift. (Closing ended up being around 9:15 PM, actually. We had some customers who really didn't want to leave.) Tonight was Luminary night in our town, where the downtown is decorated with candles and the stores stay open late and offer various specials. As usual, we had an author signing, and it went very well. We were extremely busy all night long.
I got a ride home from the other part-timer who worked this evening, and now I'm pretty much waiting to come down from the excitement of the evening before going to bed. It's a late night, and I have to be up early to travel tomorrow, but I'm feeling tired enough that I expect I'll sleep well.
