Up mid-morning, and puttered about for a while before heading out for lunch at a restaurant across the street from the hotel. And then it was off to the reason why we're in Chicago this weekend: Rossini's La Cenerentola at the Lyric Opera. We had a great time. Not only is La Cenerentola a delightful opera in it's own right, but the Lyric's staging was fun and whimsical and colorful and very enjoyable. One or two of the singers had a little trouble singing over the orchestra, but that was about the only down side. A lot of stage business was done by six dancers dressed up as mice (or perhaps rats), who helped Cinderella at various points with moving furniture, escorting her to the ball, and filling up purely orchestral moments with on-stage action.
Unfortunately, queenmomcat started feeling sick last night, and today she had a rash on her face that's been expanding alarmingly. She's going to contact our regular doctor through the internet tomorrow in hopes of making an appointment for after we get back home. She's also feeling punk, so she took a hot bath this evening after dinner. I napped while she was doing that, and it looks like I'll be headed back to bed soon. Something about staying in hotels makes me want to go to bed early. Of course, it's been a busy day, too.
