Up early or subbing this morning and off to the junior high to our north, where I was the eight-grade social studies teacher for the day. Overall, the kids were very chatty, but they did at least get some work done. There was a lockdown drill in the morning that went on for about twenty minutes and during which I could not, for the life of me, get the kids to remain quiet as they were supposed to. Had it been a real live shooter emergency, we would have been the first room wiped out. Very disappointing. On the up side, I started reading Freeman Wills Crofts's The Hog's Back Mystery during my break period, and I'm enjoying it so far. Classic British mystery for the win.
Back home, I spent some time online and then took a long nap. Later, I prepared some garlic shrimp for dinner, and after that I did some dishes in preparation for us going out of town over the weekend. (The opera season begins for us this Sunday, which is a happifying thing.) I work at the book store tomorrow, but then I have the weekend off, and we're spending it in Chicago. Should be fun.
