Up mid-morning, and spent some time puttering about the hotel. I used the public computers to check my e-mail and Facebook, but found nothing really earth-shattering there. queenmomcat spent most of the late morning across the street from the hotel in Spa Nordstrom being pampered. So it was a pretty mellow start to the day for both of us.
Before queenmomcat got back, I went over to Oysy to get some takeout sushi for our lunch. We ate it together in the hotel room, and then it was off to the main reason for our trip: Tosca at the Lyric Opera. We saw a production of this opera here about five years back, but I think the one we saw today was a better version. Certainly it was well-sung and the sets were interesting enough for me to take notice (usually queenmomcat is the one who goes on about the sets). One interesting production choice was the addition of a young girl in white who appears at critical junctures for Tosca in the play. According to the program notes, she represents the young and innocent Tosca, and is sort of the better angel of her nature. Anyways: good performances, good music, a suitably villainous Scarpia -- all in all a successful opera experience.
We had an early dinner at Bijan, and then returned to the hotel for the evening. As I was taking off my shoes, I tore the sole half-off on the left one. I guess I'll be doing some shoe shopping tomorrow morning.
