Up mid-morning, and wasted some time online both with my usual internet routine and with getting my thoughts straight for the evening's book presentations. I walked in to work, where my shift ended up running from 2:00 PM to about 9:15 PM. It was actually a pretty busy afternoon, which often isn't the case when we have our evening events. Apparently, the local schools were out for the day (inservice or teacher training or somesuch), so a lot of families came by to browse and even buy.
Late in the day, we started rearranging the back half of the store for the evening's event. We actually had about 90 people signed up to come, and about 80 of them ended up making it, so things were pretty crowded. We still managed to fit everybody in, but I suspect some of the people in the back weren't able to see the slides the author brought.
First, the staff went through their recommended books, and I was able to present all of mine successfully without having completed all of them. It's a skill. The author then talked for a while herself, and then the signing pat of the evening began. I ended up running the cash register while the signing was going on, and we did made some good sales. Afterwards, I counted down the register while my coworkers put the store back in order, and at the end of the night, the owner gave me a ride home. Overall, it was a successful event.
Back home, I took out the garbage and then helped queenmomcat make a tuna noodle casserole for dinner. It's a good quick dish -- the only real disadvantage to making it is that the cat becomes veeeeeery interested when the can of tuna is opened and has to be bribed to leave us alone to cook.
Tomorrow, I have nothing scheduled, and barring any last-minute subbing assignments, I should have a quiet day at home. I'm looking forward to it.
