I got up much later this morning than I would have liked, but as usual we managed to get all of our bags repacked and check out of the hotel before noon. We left our bags at the hotel and took the CTA off to Wicker Park, where we finally had a chance to spend some time in Myopic Books. I say "finally" because the last two times we tried to make our way out there, we were foiled, first by a shooting closing down the Blue Line and then by the CTA deciding to do repair work on the station closest to the store. In any case, we made it there today. queenmomcat found a couple of "treasures" that she'd been looking for, and I picked up some poetry, so all went well.

We had lunch afterwards at a restaurant a few doors down from the book store in one direction, followed by coffee at a café a little bit in the other direction. (Actually I had coffee with lunch, so I had a berry smoothie at the café, but that's not really important.) At the café I started reading We Are Pirates by Daniel Handler, which I'm finding enjoyable. Teen angst results in acts of piracy in San Francisco Bay. What's not to like?

Mid-afternoon, we made our way back to the hotel, picked up our bags, and headed off to the train station. After the usual scrum boarding, we settled in for a nice ride home. The train left Chicago on time and managed to get into our town only fifteen minutes late. We stopped by the pizza place in the depot or dinner, and then drove home to our own little house and our own little cat. I've spent the last few hours catching up online, so I'll be going to bed late tonight, but I don't have to be anywhere until tomorrow afternoon, so that's okay. It was good to get away for a few days, but now it's good to be back.
