I got up much later than I would have liked this morning, leaving me with barely enough time to wake up, have breakfast, get ready for the day, and go in to work. I ended up driving in, in part because I was running late and in part because the weather was just awful. We're talking sideways snow and ice on the roads from the rain of the last two days.

Frankly, I'm surprised that anybody came out today, but I ended up having a decently busy day at the book store. Still, I had time in between customers to read about half of an ARC for a middle-grade novel: Alistair Grim's Odditorium, by Gregory Funaro. I;m enjoying it so far, and I may actually finish it next week.

After closing the store, driving home, and spending some time online, I baked some salmon for dinner, which was served with rice and peas. I've always though of this as a healthy dinner, but it turns out to be surprisingly high in carbs. Oh well. I measured carefully and kept within my limits.

I think I'll go to bed early tonight. I have nothing major planned for tomorrow, which is good, although school starts again so I may be called in to sub. It's unlikely -- it will be the first day of school of the year, after all -- but I do have a subbing assignment for Tuesday already lined up. We'll see what happens.

Have you considered going to brown rice? It is undeniably different from white rice, but the taste is similar enough that it's a good substitute. That's what I did when the doctor ordered a complete excision of refined carbs from my diet. Also things like whole wheat pasta.

It's a thought, although my current diet attempt cuts down on all carbs, not only refined ones, so brown rice counts as much as white rice. But I'll ask my nutritionist about it when I see her next week.
