Up mid-morning, to a gray and rainy day. I don't think we're going to have a white Christmas this year, alas. In any case, I walked in to work, where I had a brief shift of 11:30 AM to 1:45 PM. It was actually a surprisingly quiet day at the book store -- I guess everybody came in yesterday or Monday. I basically took care of the shipment for the day, then wished everybody a Merry Christmas and walked home.

At home, I spent some time online and then took a much-needed nap. (Today may not have been a frantic day, but there have been enough of them in the last week.) In the evening, queenmomcat and I went out for our own personal holiday dinner. I definitely went over my carb count -- it was the cheesecake on offer that did it -- but my blood sugar levels later in the evening were actually kind of low. I don't understand my body.

Anyways, after dinner, we set up the traditional Christmas cactus on the dining room table and surrounded it with presents. queenmomcat put together the stockings, hampered somewhat by my tendency to wander through the living room just as she was stuffing something particularly choice into my stocking. I made a generally successful effort not to look, so I will be surprised tomorrow. Otherwise, we've just been hanging out, waiting for bedtime.

You put your presents around a Christmas cactus? I love that. My dad grows Christmas cactus, and has such a green thumb that they are generally 2-3 feet across. He has one in a lovely shade of peach that I've never seen anywhere else.

We don't really have room for a full-sized tree, and the Christmas cactus seemed a reasonable substitute. We usually have a pretty big one to put the presents around, but this year the larger ones we have got a bit bitten by the first frost (they were sunning on the front porch), so we put two small ones out instead.
