I was originally scheduled to sub today, but what with having a funeral to attend, I cancelled that assignment two days ago. I still got up early this morning (for me), so that queenmomcat and I could make it to the church on time. It took us a little bit of wandering to get there, but we made it in the end.
I'm not sure when the last time was that I set foot in a Catholic church, but it's been many years. Most of the service was still familiar, however, although one or two of the responses seem to have changed in the last two decades. In any case, queenmomcat and I stayed for the service, but decided not to go to the graveside ceremony, feeling that was more for the family. At least the weather took a turn for the bearable: it's still cold out, but the bitter wind of the last few days has gone away and the sun has emerged.
After stopping downtown for lunch, we came home, where I spent some time on the computer before lying down for a short nap. The nap was short because I had to be at work at 4:30 PM to help prepare for Luminary Night and our author signing. The city took care of the luminaries this year, which at least was one fewer things for us at the book store to worry about. Our guest -- a children's book author and illustrator -- was delightful, and we did a fair bit of business over the course of the evening. I spent the time behind the register, checking people out as fast as I could. We didn't close the store until a little after 9:00 PM, at which point I counted down the register while my coworkers cleaned and got everything back to normal.
One of my coworkers kindly gave me a ride home, where I found queenmomcat had prepared a nice, aromatic beef stew. It was a very good dinner, and now I'm all full and sleepy. I'll be getting to bed late tonight, which is annoying, because I have to be up early tomorrow to go with queenmomcat to an appointment with her neurosurgeon, but so it goes.
