Up very early this morning and off to the airport, only to find the first flight of our day was delayed. We still got to Detroit with (barely) enough time to catch our connecting flight, but in the rush to get off the first airplane I left behind my coat, which is very irritating. It's a good coat, and I have no great hope of seeing it again. In any case, we did make our connection, getting into Burlington on time. My dad picked us up at the airport, and we were at my parents' house by a little after noon.
My aunt Nina was at my parents' house -- she was up for a short visit for my dad's birthday -- and it was very good to catch up with her over the course of the afternoon and evening. My parents also have a new dog since the last time I visited: Robbie, a Scottish terrier. He's a little way of strangers, and spent today either barking at or avoiding me and queenmomcat. This continued, even through and afternoon walk with some of the dogs and family members.
Despite getting up very early and not having my usual nap, I was surprisingly awake for most of the day. And now it's bedtime, not late but not early either, after a pleasant evening reminiscing with my parents and Nina. Lots of material there for perhaps future poems as it happens, but I'm not feeling inspired in exactly that way right now. Sleep will tell.
