Last night, after I turned off my computer, I picked up another book of poetry -- The Second Sex by Michael Robbins -- planning to read a few pages before going to sleep. The book, however, was interesting enough and short enough that I was able to finish the whole thing before nodding off (17/3,633).
This morning, I got up late, and it was a dreary day outside when I rose. It was cloudy, raining lightly, and unpleasantly hot. The clouds and rain eventually cleared off, but we ended up turning the air conditioners on to deal with the heat. In any case, about an hour after I got up the garage called to say that my car was ready, and queenmomcat drove me there to reclaim it and pay for the repairs. Thankfully, the garage didn't find anything else wrong with my car beyond what I'd brought it in for, so I guess I'm good for a little while. Given the condition of the roads in Michigan, I'll probably have to replace the shocks pretty soon, but not immediately.
Back home, I had a kind of listless afternoon. I tried doing some writing, but without success. Instead, I picked up yet another book of poetry: Thing Music by Anthony McCann. I read a little bit of that and then took a nap. After I woke up, I spent some time online and then prepared garlic shrimp for dinner. After dinner, I read a little more of Thing Music, and now I'm ready for bed. I go back to work at the book store tomorrow, but I don't have to be there until 5:00 PM (I close the store at 9:00 PM -- it's the start of summer hours). It'll probably be a very slow shift, but I have plenty to read for work and I'm sure there will be other tasks to keep me busy.
